To fly down, you’ll first need to go all the way up to the roof of Park Inn Berlin. There, you’ll be equipped with highly secure full-body harnesses and carabiners used in alpine sports, attached to a special person-abseiling winch. Then, you’ll spread your arms and let yourself fall!

Robust steel cables will secure your flight against the wind. Unlike bungee jumping, you won’t be hanging upside down, and there’s no uncomfortable snapping back of the rope. Instead, you’ll be automatically slowed down gently about 10 meters above the ground, ensuring an absolutely smooth landing.

The idea for Base Flying originated from the stunt industry, where in films and television, people often simulate falling from buildings or cliffs using a special rappelling winch. This winch was adapted for event operations and further developed to meet the highest safety standards.

The name of this extreme sport is an acronym: “b” stands for “building”, “a” for “antenna”, “s” for “span”, and “e” for “earth”. Jochen Schweizer then brought this idea to the rooftop of the Park Inn Hotel. With the help of a helicopter, the rappelling winch was installed on the roof of the building in 2009. Since then, more than 20,000 people have enjoyed the Base Flying experience in Berlin!
