Kiss Kiss Berlin and Maneo Kiss Marathon
Rainbow Cake as a symbol of Openness and Tolerance
On the 17th of May the world famous: „International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia“ (IDAHOT) will be taking place again this year. Since 2005, every year, public awareness campaigns have run to inform about people who identify as homosexual, transsexual and bisexual as their sexual orientation or gender identity. The initiative was started by Louis-Georges Tin, who today heads the French section of the International Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans and Intersex Association (ILGA). The campaign’s purpose is to coordinate international activities and to demand respect for lesbians and gays. The date was selected with the special background of remembrance of the 17th of May 1990: On this day homosexuality was removed from the list of mental illnesses of the World Health Organisation (WHO). Today, despite the introductions of gay marriage and the General Equal Treatment Act – (AGG), discrimination, violence and low tolerance levels exist. For this reason these organisations began campaigns to make a change and raise awareness. The campaigns taking place in Berlin are „Kiss Kiss Berlin“ and the „MANEO Kiss Marathon“. The latter is a fundraising-party in participating clubs and party locations. It will be promoted with the motto „Your kiss against homophobia and hate-crime“. The event’s hosts’ donate 1-2 euros per guest to MANEO. Half of these donations will go to victim assistance work by MANEO and to an international project which will be selected at the start of every year. Aside from Berlin’s club scene, the Maneo Kiss Marathon will also be taking place at symbolic locations. With the Kiss solidarity will be shown with a united message supporting tolerance. Yesterday as part of the „Kiss Kiss Berlin“ campaign, Rainbow Cake was festively cut at different locations in Berlin. The Park Inn Berlin Alexanderplatz donated a 90 x 35 cm large Cream-Fruit-Rainbow Cake as a campaign partner and cut the cake together with Dr. Dirk Behrendt, the Senator for Justice, Consumer Protection and Anti-Discrimination at the Säulensaal Hall of Berlin’s Town Hall. „This year again, the Park Inn Berlin Alexanderplatz is happy to help again with the „Kiss Kiss Berlin“ campaign. For a Berlin Hotel with a huge range of different guests and occupations from all over the world openness and tolerance are especially important. […]“, explains Jürgen Gangl, General Manager of the Park Inn Berlin Alexanderplatz. Through this we are also making a stand against homophobia and transphobia, because as Germany’s second largest hotel with many multicultural guests, we especially value openness and tolerance.
